About the brand
The Avène brand is a contemporary dermo-cosmetic skincare brand trusted by millions of people around the world. Their products are derived from thermal spring water that has been used to care for sensitive skin for over 270 years.
Avène offers dermatology-developed skincare products specifically made for sensitive and dry skin.
The brand has a variety of products available that helps fight many skin concerns. These include very sensitive skin, dehydrated skin, oily skin, blemish-prone skin, anti-ageing, sun-protective, dull skin, dry skin, redness-prone, and itchy skin.
For this specific review though the product that will be discussed is the:
Avene Hydrance Hydrating Cream (moisturiser).
How was I introduced to the product?
Upon explaining to my dermatologist on my very first visit after I desperately needed help with my skin that I suffered from dry and sensitive skin, she almost immediately recommended the product. She also gave me a background of the brand and how it would benefit me.
It wasindeed the very first moisturiser I started using on my skin. 🙂
I was recommended to use this cream along with a sk:n cleanser, sunscreen and some exfoliators to try to repair the damage that I have caused to my skin.
See image below
Besides, she told me how hydrating and efficient it is for my very dry, sensitive skin. Due to her expertise, I trusted her.
I even remember something she told me about skincare that still sticks with me. She said that we don’t necessarily need many products to fix skin concerns and that a three-step routine (cleanser, moisturiser, and SPF) might be enough to maintain healthy skin.
This is the core knowledge that I try to emphasize on this platform.
In addition, the second point she made was that there are many products out there. The best way to find out what works for us is to do our research and experiment. She said there is plenty of useful information available online. Unless you have a serious concern about your skin, she said, you may not need a doctor or a skin expert.
It was for this reason that I started this blog to educate and guide you about this condition. (I hope this platform will be helpful for you) 😀
As a side note, let’s now take a closer look at the features and advantages of the product 🙂

- Smoothness and luminosity are restored, and fine dehydration lines are minimised.

My experience with the product
Honestly, I would say that the cream or product itself was really helpful for my skin, I won’t lie. A particular aspect of the product I liked was the creamy texture and how quickly it absorbed into my skin and hydrated it. The product also made my skin feel refreshed and radiant every time I applied it.
Considering my dehydrated skin at the time, it was a good moisturiser overall.
However, I must admit that it did cause a few bumps on my skin. However, I am not sure whether this was because of the cream or the combination of the other products that were recommended to be used with it. I am not quite sure.
I have used the product for roughly a month and a half and bought about three or four of them. I noticed that I would run out of it pretty quickly and had to buy another one just after a week and a half or so.
What I like about the product 🙂
- Specifically formulated and targeted for dry to very dry, dehydrated, sensitive skin
- The effectiveness in hydrating the skin
- It hydrates the skin for hours.
- Contains key ingredients for dry sensitive skin
What I don’t like about the product 🙁
- Leaves the skin bumpy (not as effective as the product claim)
- Package too small
- Way too expensive for its size
- The product does not last long – finishes too quickly
My Rating
Besides hydrating the skin, it didn’t do much, but that’s to be expected considering its main function is to hydrate the skin. And the only reason I would give it a 3.7/5 is that I didn’t find it to be as effective as I had expected and it finished too quickly.
Also, I had a better experience with the CeraVe moisturizing cream [review here] since its container is larger and I was able to experiment with it on my whole body. It’s not possible with this product since it’s too small and only lasts for a couple of weeks, especially if you use it regularly.
Is it a brand that I would recommend to you?
Oh yes absolutely! The main reason is that it and I do not think I have known of many products or brands that specifically focus on dry to very dry, dehydrated, sensitive skin as their main target. There are not many out there if I have to be honest with you.
And if you like the brand, you can check the perfect combo (a 3 step routine for very sensitive skin) – The Avene moisturising and calming 3-step routine.
If you do not want to have a moisturiser and sunscreen separately, Avene also offers the Hydrance UV Rich hydrating cream. The latter it’s an anti-UV moisturising cream with SPF that leaves the skin hydrated, comfortable and protected all day long. There is also a BB-tinted version available. 🙂
Last but not least, overall, it is a good moisturiser that is well-recommended for dry and sensitive skin. Just bear in mind that you might need to buy one more frequently and that it might not be as effective as you might expect. And if you want to give the product a try, you can grab one either at Lookfantastic.com or Boots.com 🙂
