Getting to know your skin type and condition is a crucial step to taking care of it. As such, we will be discussing the importance of knowing your skin type and condition before implementing a skincare routine.
It is critical to remember that before using a particular product or starting a skincare routine, it is fundamental to get a prior understanding of your skin condition.
The article will be an informative piece that will walk through the signs and symptoms to be aware of for dry sensitive skin. The website was indeed built for people suffering from dry sensitive skin only!
Having said so, down below we will be discussing the following topics: The importance of knowing your skin type, Dry skin, Sensitive skin and combination skin.
The importance of knowing your skin type
Knowing your skin type is fundamental since it is going to affect your health and general well-being. Experts believe that it is necessary to know your skin type to carefully look after it, particularly when it comes to your face.
It is believed that people that do know their skin type can take care of it with the right products. It has been proven that people that know their skin type tend to take proper care of it and as a result:
*Their skin is in good condition, thus making them look younger and healthier;
*It prevents their skin from further breakouts in the future;
They tend to be more confident, and thus contribute more to society and live happier lives.
Guy celebrities are proof of it, their glowing and amazing skin is sure to make people jealous! Of course, we should not be comparing ourselves to them. They indeed have got a different lifestyle than many of us.
They have access to the most skilled dermatologists in the world and can easily get the most effective products! However, it does not have to be like that anymore!!
The internet and technology have allowed all of us to have quick access to the best products out there! We just have to know our skin type and what products are most suitable! We’re ready to go and glow with our skin!
Now it is critical to note that knowing your skin type will allow you to carefully choose skincare products that are right for your skin.
If the product is not compatible with your skin type, there is a high probability that your skin will worsen.
In addition to the conditions that you might already have, the wrong products can cause more damages to your skin. In severe cases, it can even cause permanent conditions.
It is therefore vital to know your skin type before purchasing a product and starting a skincare routine!
Guys I can tell from experience!! The use of wrong products caused my skin to break out so badly that I was forced on many occasions to cancel or postpone activities or find excuses not to attend! It is frustrating! And this only because I was not fully aware of my skin condition!
Now let’s look at the most common symptoms and causes of dry and sensitive skin:
I: Dry skin
According to the Mayo Clinic, dry skin is not a serious condition and can be easily maintained if treated properly of course!
Dry skin may usually occur temporarily, but it also can be a lifelong symptom! Usual signs and symptoms of dry skin may depend on where you live, your age, health and your time spent outdoors.
This is due to factors such as hot or cold weather or even low moisture in the air.
According to experts what can also cause dry skin is after taking long hot showers or baths. Water exposure can lead to dry skin (and can disrupt the skin’s natural balance of moisture, taking off the natural oils, fats and proteins that keep our skin healthy).
According to Dr Krant (a board-certified dermatologist with the American Academy of Dermatology), a long shower gives the water a chance to allow any cleansers to be more damaging to the skin.
Guys this means that the shorter the shower the better! I want to note here that although dry skin is usually a condition caused by a lack of water in the skin, being exposed to water can do more harm to our skin than improve it.
Also, many experts stated that even periods of stress may cause the skin to get dry since it may weaken the skin’s barrier (hinder its ability to retain water).
I absolutely can relate to it! In part, my life has always been quite stressful! And I am pretty sure that you can relate to it as well!!

So what are the most common symptoms you may ask?
Well here is the list:
*Dehydration – the most obvious one
*Skin that looks and feels rough/uneven
*Redness (also really common in sensitive skin)
*Cracks that may cause bleed (if not treated)
*Fine lines
*Itching & irritation that can be painful
*Sensation of skin tightness & rough texture
*Severe peeling
*Gray ashy skin & skin infection
Although there might be other symptoms, these that I have listed above are the most common ones referred by dermatologists and experts.
You can do a lot to improve your skin, and products for dry skin usually have water-based ingredients to moisturize the skin better.
However, what might be tricky is when it is combined with sensitive skin. An issue which we will be discussing later in this article.
But before discussing it, let’s look at what causes sensitive skin and what are the most common symptoms to look for and pay attention to.
II: Sensitive skin
According to Dermatologist Katz, there are six most common signs that determine that your skin is sensitive which means that:
*Your skin is reactive
*You’re more prone to breakouts
*You easily suffer from sunburn
*Occurrence of redness-one of the most common ones
*Having rashes
*skin tends to get dry
So, if you do get one of these symptoms or signs you probably are suffering from this condition! And although sensitive skin is a condition that has not been medically diagnosed yet, according to many dermatologists it is a very normal and common problem that many people face.
According to a study conducted by the IFSI (The International Forum for the Study of Itch), they stated that sensitive skin can affect all body parts, particularly the face.
Sensitive skin is an inflammatory condition that differs from person to person. It is believed that some may get easily irritated by the clothes that they wear. For some people, it might be that they are having a reaction to chemicals, fragrances or dyes that are in products that touch the skin.
Whether you are in one of these categories there are many that are having the same issue as you! Rest assured you are not the only one! I also get easily irritated by chemicals and fragrances in products and I always have to be extra cautious!!
Therefore, finding ways to avoid further breakouts and more irritated skin will help people suffering from this condition and help them regain their confidence back. Luckily there are many solutions to this!
III: ‘Combination’ of both Dry & Sensitive Skin
Combination skin usually refers to having more than one skin type combined instead of a particular one. Normally, you don’t hear many people talking about dry sensitive skin combination. This is because sensitive skin in itself is usually considered as a condition rather than a skin type.
However, I am here to deliver something different in order to help people that do suffer from dry sensitive skin! You see, there are not many informative articles that explain this skin type and it can be challenging to find exactly what you are looking for.
According to dermatologists, dry sensitive skin can be considered as a skin type. There is a high probability that the majority of people have dry and sensitive skin combined and might not be aware of it.
Indeed, according to experts having dry sensitive skin is more common than having either dry or sensitive skin. Many of the symptoms are similar and many can have dry skin and experience sensitivity in a few spots or areas. Experts believe that it is totally normal.
However, the causes and symptoms of dry, dehydrated and sensitive skin may vary. It is believed that when the skin lacks moisture it becomes dull and it is unable to effectively work as a barrier to protect our body. As a result it becomes fragile. It is however difficult to distinguish between dry skin and sensitive skin since they often coexist.
And as we’ve mentioned above, dry skin is usually prone to sensitivity and sensitive skin is often dry. It can be difficult to determine the cause and provide treatment when this happens.
The appropriate products can however address this issue by supporting skin hydration, and we are here to address this problem and help you find the right products!
